Debbie Haughton, LMHCDebbie is an experienced licensed mental health counselor who offers counseling in Orlando and specializes in teen counseling, marriage and family counseling, and parenting.  Debbie uses cognitive behavioral counseling with many of her clients.

Debbie has worked with individuals who suffer from anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, and depression.  Debbie also offers self -esteem counseling to many clients including those seeking her assistance in relationship counseling.

The adolescent years can often be challenging for any parent.  Debbie has worked with many people to counsel them on parenting adolescents.  Her on-line counseling abilities have helped many who are also parenting adult children.  This type of counseling can be attractive particularly to those who enjoy their computer and the activity of being on-line.

Parenting adult children can be stressful on a family.  Debbie is highly trained in using a variety of cognitive behavioral therapy strategies to coach clients who are guiding their adult children.  In addition, Debbie’s experience in family counseling has helped many to work through their struggles.  Some have hired her specifically for her experience in Christian Counseling.

Debbie has been instrumental to many who have used her for couples counseling.  Those who have met with her for premarital counseling have learned better communication skills and have a healthier marriage

Depression counseling is an area Debbie has experience in as well.  Depression is an area of concern for many particularly those in a parental role.  Debbie is well versed in training clients on depression symptoms and tools to overcoming this mental health illness.

Debbie uses a variety of psychotherapy techniques in working with clients.  Though Debbie offers primarily Orlando counseling, she can facilitate phone counseling for those who live out of the area and are not able to meet with her personally.

Experience:

Addictions Counselor - As a staff member at the Grove Counseling Center in Winter Springs, Florida, she counseled adolescents suffering from addictions, gender identity issues and matters related parent / child relationships, absentee parents, substance abuse and sexual orientation.

Mental Health Counselor - Debbie later transitioned to a private counseling practice in Casselberry, Florida where she focused her counseling on clients suffering from mental health disorders and relationship issues; particularly co-dependency, ADHD, dating challenges, grief, depression and anxiety and low self-esteem.


Career Coach and Vocational Counselor - Debbie was also responsible for launching the career counseling program at Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Orlando campus. As a career counselor, she has worked extensively with young and middle aged adults exploring career paths that will meet their long-term goals and aspirations, while aligning well with their skills, talents, personality and strengths. She also works with VA clients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and physical disabilities to help them reenter the workplace and find a new career path more suited towards their disabilities.

Church Counseling - Debbie has also established a counseling program through her church, Christ Kingdom Church (PCA). Through this practice, she focuses on clients with marriage issues, teenagers experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, cutting and identity confusion. She especially enjoys working with people who are single, dating and/or facing relationship difficulties. Debbie also is working with ministry professionals who are struggling in their profession.

Debbie received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with a Minor in Music from Florida State University. She earned her Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University and now combines her communications and business skills with her counseling abilities to help people find a better life.

Special Interests:

As a trained musician and vocalist, Debbie particularly enjoys singing and playing keyboards with her church worship band. She is exploring opportunities to combine her love for music and counseling to benefit children and adolescents seeking outlets for creative expression. In addition to music, Debbie is also passionate about project management and leadership. In her spare time, she works with the Digital Media Alliance of Florida helping to promote this new and growing industry by planning and organizing events, develop leadership roles and drive the organization’s business agenda. She is active in a local USTA tennis league, loves to travel and enjoys adventurous outdoor activities.
